Comic Relief
The Red Noses are a set of collectable and wearable character figures, produced by Comic Relief for its Red Nose Day campaigns. They’re aimed at an audience of 5 to 11 year olds and a new set is made every campaign. I had the pleasure of designing the Nose characters for 2019.
Set within the theme of a fairytale land full of magical and mythical Noses called "Sneezeland", the 12 Red Noses characters included a cat king, a cautious knight, a dim troll... and a green frog?
Process
Over several months, I worked with Sainsbury’s to bring these new characters to life, from producing concept sketches to the final models.
‘Design a Nose’ Competition
Several schoolkids across the UK entered our competition to design a Red Nose character that would join the rest of the 2019 set as a rare Nose. The chosen design was Transforminos, a two-faced Red Nose of “magical siblings”. I interpreted this design for production, and did the same for the runner ups who would receive a one-off 3D printed model.
Out In The Wild
During the Red Nose Day campaign, the Red Nose characters appeared across a number of merchandise, media and fundraising materials. Oh, and one Nose character got made into a massive, life-size costume.
